creative destruction

….there’s a great article In the new Transworld Business about rising out of the current situation, and on how much focus needs to but began branding…

How companies that do that will succeed.

It highlights the fact the we have been over retailer and offered too many similar choices in the same product catergory for awhile.

Back In ‘95 when this was new….

Watching the commentary on the wonderful Director’s Lab Spike Jonze DVD…

On Wax’s “California”, the infamous video where the man is running on fire. Loomis, bassist for the band, pointed out that this video was released at the Height of Beavis & Butthead, and right after MTV had to put a ban on the character’s signature freakout of yelling “fire! fire!”

So the show producers had to the characters watch the video, and Beavis turn red from holding it in, and eventually pass out from the over excitement of seeing the guy run on fire for the entire video.

Hilarious.

Zack & Miri Make A Porno…is killer, vintage kevin smith in that it’s hilarious, disgusting, vulgar, sweet, and sheds exceptional light on the human experience of those of us who are decidedly unexceptional. Not the assholes on reality shows, but more us schleps who watch them.

It follows very much the model of Chasing Amy, arguably KS’s best pic; the film starts out gut busting and ridiculous, but all of the sudden gets really serious.

Where as Amy, at it’s core, is really about reconciling our own preconceived notions of acceptable paths and unattainable expectations we place often place on a mate, ZMMP deals with recognize and then denying what is obvious.

And has Traci Lords. And poo. And Jason Mewes. And gay sex jokes.
